Web Site Hosting or Email Hosting |
FTP Today specializes 100% in private FTP site hosting. While this is a web-related service, FTP is a different protocol altogether from HTTP. Our servers are finely tuned to maximize performance for secure file transfer and, unlike our competitors, we do not believe that it is in our customers' best interests to mix services like web hosting or email hosting on the same servers. The only form of "web site" on our servers is the Web FTP Client that we provide for the convenience of securely logging in and transferring files using a common web browser. |
Anonymous FTP, Software Distribution or other mass distribution of files |
FTP Today is focused on the secure sharing of files as opposed to the mass distribution of files. The volume of bandwidth potentially generated by any form of mass distribution could create a resource issue that could adversely affect our customers. Please see our Acceptable Use Policy for more information. |
| HTTP Download Access |
Allowing download access to files directly by HTTP would violate the entire premise of a secure file transfer service. You should make sure that other FTP hosts you are considering do not allow HTTP download access, as this would be a very negative feature from a security standpoint. If this is what you want, you can get this with any web hosting service. |
Streaming Video or Streaming Audio |
Streaming is a feature of web hosting service, not an FTP hosting service. And, like software distribution, this is a service with high bandwidth consumption. There are many companies that specialize in this service and build their networks and fee structures accordingly, so if this is what you are looking for you should have no trouble finding them. |
Long-Term Archival or Backup |
FTP Today is designed to act as a mid-point or temporary storage place to facilitate a delivery of large files. One person uploads files to the FTP server, then another person downloads those files. Normally, this is followed shortly thereafter by one of the parties deleting the files from the FTP server. Our service is not designed or priced to be used as a long-term backup or archival service. You can find such services elsewhere. |
