Every FTP site on the Internet has an IP address assigned to it. The IP address is the real address of an FTP site or FTP server. With FTP Today, every site we host has a dedicated IP address. This means that your site is the only one on the internet using that unique IP number. There are many advantages to using a dedicated IP address versus a shared IP address.

FTP Today uses OS virtualization. This method of virtualization creates isolated partitions, or virtual environments (VEs) on a single physical server. A VE is a tightly isolated container that runs its own FTP server application as if it were a physical computer. While VEs can share the physical resources of a single computer, they remain completely isolated from each other as if they were separate physical machines. Isolation is an important reason why the availability and security of hosting FTP servers running in a virtual environment (as with FTP Today) is far superior to FTP hosts running  in a traditional, non-virtualized system (as with our competitors).

Every user has a unique Home Directory (virtual root). upon login, each user is automatically taken directly to their home directory. That home directory is a Private FTP Folder Jail from which they can not escape. So, once logged in, they only have access to the files or subdirectories that you want them to see.

FTP Today has a rubust infrastructure that can handle many simultaneous connections, so we don't limit you in any way. You can have an unlimited number of simultaneous logged-in users without any degradation of performance.

This feature allows FTP Today to globally block un-encrypted access to your encryted FTP site and thereby enforce security compliance amoung your users. IP filtering also allows you to control and limit access by IP address, thereby completely denying the ability to even attempt connection or login globally, except to those you trust (who have static IP addresses).You can allow or restrict an IP address to all services of an account or to a specific service (HTTP, FTP, FTPS). This feature is an FTP Today exclusive.

Your FTP site will have a master account that serves two purposes, site management and file management. First, the master account will be your login id and password for site management. Second, your master account is a super-user FTP account, so when you establish an FTP connection with those credentials you will be able to get to all files and folder on the system, for all users that you have created. You then have full read-write-delete privileges over everything.

FTP Today builds every server with a minimum of 5 high performance hard disks in a RAID-5 configuraion (the number 5 is not because we use 5 disks). RAID-5 stripes data at the block level and also utilizes parity. With the RAID-5 technology, user information and parity are combined on every disk in the array. Independent and/or parallel data read and write operations are performed.
